Fed: Fahey running while ill "unusual" , says preselection rival

Liberal backbencher ALBY SCHULTZ says it's unusual that finance minister JOHN FAHEY
plans to contest the seat of Hume, while recovering from a serious illness.

Mr FAHEY will take on Hume's sitting MP Mr SCHULTZ for the right to contest the southern
NSW seat at the federal election due late this year.

Mr FAHEY who nominated for Hume after a redistribution made his current seat of Macarthur
more difficult to win, is recovering after surgery to remove a lung.

Mr SCHULTZ says despite what people thought, he hopes Mr FAHEY makes a quick recovery.

Mr SCHULTZ has also confirmed if he's preselected he will accept One Nation preferences.

But he's repeated his threats to quit the Liberal Party and run as an independent if
Mr FAHEY is selected instead of him.
