FED:Oakeshott joins MRRT chorus

Independent ROB OAKESHOTT wants the government to release the final details of its
proposed Minerals Resource Rent Tax as soon as parliament resumes in February .. to start
a public debate on the issue.

A policy transition group released its report into the MRRT on Tuesday and recommended
crediting all future state and territory royalties against the new tax .. contradicting
the government's stance to limit credits to the level royalties were at in May 2010.

The resources industry has largely welcomed the report .. but Queensland Premier ANNA
BLIGH and her Western Australian counterpart COLIN BARNETT oppose any capping of royalties.

Mr OAKESHOTT now says there are too many handshakes happening behind closed doors ..

and a full-on public debate is needed with a detailed piece of legislation.
